Do it For the Gram: How I Curate my Instagram Feed

If we could agree on one thing that should be, “do it for the gram!” The first time I used Instagram 6 years ago, I knew then that I wanted to keep my photos organized and “pretty.”

We know Instagram for the beautiful photos posted by travelers, influencers, stylists, and artists. That’s when the saying “do it for the gram” take into life— I can’t post a photo that’s not good for the kind of feed I am maintaining. So people go miles to get that picture gram-worthy.

But how far are you willing to go for the perfect Instagram picture? Do you think you’re authentic to your lifestyle? Or are you faking it for the “gram”?

Here’s what I realized.

Your Instagram is YOU

Clearly, your Instagram profile is you: it is a reflection of things you do in life, things you love, and everything you do under the sun. One thing I have realized is that you need to be authentic on what you’re sharing on Instagram.

If you want to post your breakfast, go on. If you want to post a lazy outfit, go on. If you wanted to share a sunset outside your place, go on. If you wanted to post your newly-bought shoes, go on. If you wanted to post your neighbor’s cute dog, with the consent, of course, go on. If you wanted to do a makeup-routine on IG TV, go on.

You own that profile and nobody should dictate you on what you should post on it. So quit the saying “I can’t post this, it’s not Instagram-worthy!”.

It’s time we say “I’m gonna post it, it’s my gram anyway”, because It’s how you want your Instagram feed to look like, then you should post accordingly to how you want it to be.

So with that said, here’s my take on how I (patiently) curate my Instagram feed.

Define Your Timeline

Start your curated gram journey by defining your timeline.

Most people would say, choose one thing to focus on and only post photos that’s related to it. So if you’re a fitness grammer, can’t you post travel photos on the gram?

So here’s a good tip I’ve learned, define your Instagram feed by timeline. A good example would be…

If you’re traveling at the moment, then post travel photos on your gram and create a pool of photos of all the white beaches, sunsets, and tan lines.

If you’re enjoying your mom-life, then post photos of your awesome baby portraits and activities.

If you’re focusing on giving styling tips, then create a grid of styled outfits for your followers.

If you just want to post anything under the sun,  then who can dictate you? You create your own timeline of how you want your feed to look like.

Choose a Filter that Fits Your Aesthetic

Okay, let’s be real here… we love filters and our Instagram feed won’t be that much without our favorite hues and colors. One good advice, if you want to make sure you’re posting everything in uniform, then use one filter/preset for every photo you post.

Since then, I really wanted a gray-like feed. Since we’re all on home-content, I can finally have the excuse of having this hue to my Instagram feed.

It’s Okay Not To Post Everyday

Another thing I have realized is that it is okay not to post everyday. If I don’t have anything relevant to share with my followers, then it’s fine to take a halt.

The most important thing here is to make sure you are enjoying how your photos and posts turned out because you were being authentic in sharing it.

Organize and Plan

Instagram feed inspiration takes time and planning. If you aim to level up your Instagram feed, then the best thing you can do is set aside time to spend on it.

Plan the content you want to post and talk about on Instagram, and organize the perfect time for posting. You can also make use of Plann to get an overview of your feed before even posting photos to your Instagram account.

That’s it! Disclaimer: I am no Instagram expert, and these tips are all based on personal experience and tips from Instagrammer friends in the industry.
